Malacca - September 3, 2022

Today was one of the most relaxing days we’ve had on this trip. I decided to rest in the morning and get some extra sleep. In the early afternoon, I went out with my friends to explore the area around the hotel a little bit more. Around 5 pm, we met up with the rest of the group and went up to the viewing tower located in Malacca. While the line was long, it was fun to stand in line and talk to everyone about the trip so far. Once it was our turn, we loaded into the circular viewing area and sat down. We were taken to the top of the tower and spun a couple times around very slowly to see a 360 view of the city.

When we were done with the group activity for the day, my friends and I decided to go to a restaurant off of Jonker Street called Wild Coriander. While it was not exclusively a vegetarian restaurant, most of the menu items were vegetables. I ended up having rice and green beans for dinner. After dinner, we walked down Jonker Street at night. It did feel different at night than during the day as the night market shut down the entire street to just pedestrians. I was able to buy some gifts for people back home. There was also a stage where different groups of people were performing in something similar to a talent show. After taking some time to shop, we decided to take a Grab (their version of an Uber) back to the hotel. However, the traffic was so bad that it took an hour and a half to go about two miles. Had we chosen to walk, it would have only been a twenty minute walk.
